Architecture studio 5 : Urban infill

Introduction 


Studio 5 is an urban infill project that focuses on market activities as main program for the urban street. It aims to explore and provide appropriate architectural solutions in designing a market-place for the city’s inhabitants. Preliminary studies were conducted introducing to studies of context in urban through analysis and documentation of the  of a selected site. This  will be done in concurrence with the research of urban infill and market-place precedents, and their architectural responses. By the end of the module, students will have developed an appropriate scheme for an urban contemporary market-place within a dense inner-city street environment that takes into consideration an understanding of applicable current legislation, building technologies and cultural imperatives of the site and its surroundings.

Learning Outcome:

  • Learning about cultural integration with site context through design extraction
  • Implementation of  urban context in design through analysis and observation
  • Application and understanding of legislation within the design space accommodating local authority requirements
  • Understanding human behavior and Kuala Lumpur culture that implemented in the design
